CONNECTING OUR COMMUNITY WITH FAMILIES IN NEED
ACROSS VANCOUVER AND THE LOWER MAINLAND.
We create holiday gift bundles that unite those who have a little extra with those who need support, transforming generosity into meaningful holiday experiences.
It all began with a simple idea: to make the holidays more accessible for those in need.
Since then, we have been able to support 71 families and 233 individuals over 4 years - and we’re still growing.
Not-So-Secret Santas was founded in 2021 by a mother-daughter team, inspired by firsthand experience with the challenges of being a single-parent, low-income household.
Having endured financial hardship - including reliance on social assistance and time spent in a shelter - our founders deeply understand the emotional toll of the holiday season when resources are scarce.
Some years, gifts seemed out of reach, and it was only through the kindness of others that Christmas celebrations were possible.
This lived experience shaped our mission: to go beyond meeting basic needs by creating holiday moments filled with joy, connection, and hope.

FAQS
ABOUT US & WHAT WE DO
-
We're committed to sustainability and have taken a different approach to how we create bundles. Instead of promoting new purchases, we focus on repurposing gently-used gifts. By giving these items a second life, we reduce waste while supporting families in need.
-
Families are referred to us through local programs and resources, including city social service programs, shelters, transition homes, and community support networks. These partner organizations understand the specific needs of vulnerable families in our community. By partnering with them, we can ensure we can provide support to those who need it most.
-
We offer a variety of ways for people to get involved - our goal is to make what we do accessible and meaningful for everyone involved. Some of our available ways to do so are: donating gently used or new items, sponsoring a family, hosting a drive, and volunteering time for donation pickups.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
-
Don’t worry if an item isn’t on a specific wishlist - we do our best to match each donation to a family’s needs and preferences. Any remaining items at the end of the season are donated to our partner organizations.
-
We welcome sponsors of all types – individuals, workplace teams, friend groups, and community organizations. While sponsors are welcome to purchase the gifts brand new to fulfill the lists, we do recommend getting some or all second-hand!
-
We are always in need for extra help with donation pickups and sorting items!
-
Hosting a drive is a wonderful way to support local families during the holidays. We welcome winter clothing for adults and children (jackets, hats, mittens, snow pants, scarves, rain jackets, and boots) as well as toys and giftable items of all kinds.
For a list of suggested items or printable materials to share with your group, please reach out to us.
-
Yes! While physical donations are our priority, financial support is also appreciated. The funds can go towards a specific family of your choosing. Otherwise, it contributes to our general fund, which helps purchase used items from thrift stores and marketplace, or grocery gift cards for families dealing with food insecurity. Please contact us for details on e-transfers and donations.
-
We welcome items that still have life left in them, for both children and adults, such as:
lego and other toy sets
puzzles & board games
crafts and art supplies
barbies, dolls, dollhouses, play kitchens
science kits
-
Yes! Every year, we have an increasing need for winter clothing. Winter and rain jackets, scarves, mittens, and boots are always appreciated and help families stay warm through the season.
SPONSORING A FAMILY
-
Not at all. We provide wishlists to give sponsors guidance, but we understand that perfect matches aren't always possible. Families are aware that we aim to fulfill their wishes but cannot guarantee every item.
-
Very flexible! While wishlists offer direction, the most important thing is selecting thoughtful gifts that will bring joy to the family. We include blurbs for each family member for our sponsors to get an idea of who they are, their hobbies, and their likes and dislikes. Our families are grateful for any effort to create a special holiday experience.
-
We highly encourage a connection between sponsors and families, however we must obtain permission from the family before doing so. Many are happy to meet their sponsors, but some families prefer to remain anonymous. We always respect our family's wishes and operate with the utmost discretion.
-
Gift wrapping is optional. If you choose not to, don't worry – we can provide gift-wrapping services for families who need it.
-
Please reach out to us via email or in our contact form! We will be in touch on further steps and what to expect.
